Senior Connections Plans for Busy July
The first week of July may be short because of the holiday, but it will be memorable.
After a fun filled morning on Monday, July 1, Linda Morrison with Second Chance Emporium Resale Store in La-Grange will share all about this amazing organization. This place has changed so many lives for the better. Everything sold in the store has been donated by the community, and a large percentage of money they take in goes right back out into the community.
They are a non-profit and run by a coalition of seven local churches representing different denominations. The majority of the work is performed by unpaid volunteers from the member churches, as well as the community at large.
Since opening its doors at the end of April 1996, Second Chance has contributed over $4 million to various service organizations. To hear more about this amazing organization come join us, lunch is at 11:30 a.m. and her presentation follows.
Tuesday, July 2, is a really big day. Please come and join us for our first day in Weimar. Find us at the First United Methodist Church on St. Charles Street. Join us for dominoes, card games and social time with a cup of coffee and a sweet treat from 9 - 11:30 a.m. Save room for Amanda’s famous meatloaf and buttered potatoes, fresh garden salad and a delightful desert.
The first Lunch and Learn speaker will be the churches office manager, Kurt Hinton. He is going to share with our group all of the organizations that are housed in their church. There are ten different groups on the grounds, whose goal is to improve the lives of the people in the community.
After the short presentation we will bring out the bingo cage and pass out the bingo cards. So, if you are from the Weimar area, are 55 up and looking for something to do, come on out. We will be in the fellowship hall and there will be signs to guide you. We will be in Weimar the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
Senior Connections will celebrate Independence Day a day early in Schulenburg. Traditional hotdogs and potato salad with some fresh fruit is on the menu. And we just might have a surprise for dessert. There will be no art class on Friday, July 5. The center will be closed for the holiday.
Georgia Pohl will be the guest artist instructor for the month of July. One project on her agenda includes an acrylic painting of a floral wreath on canvas. Alternative projects will be available for those with limited dexterity. We are lucky to partner with Arts For Rural Texas to bring these art classes to our members.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for a special day. On July 22, we will be meeting at the KC Hall. The Fender Bender Band will be entertaining us after our meal.
And keep an eye out for our plans for Flatonia. We should have our location secured soon and can begin promoting our program to be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
We would love for you to join. There is no membership fee, and meals are also at no cost. If you are compelled to make a donation that is welcomed. And if you want to get involved in any way, calling bingo, donating bingo prizes, speaking for our Lunch and Learn program, helping to serve or in any other way, reach out to Stephanie Shroyer at (979) 702-1246.
