The La Grange Community Blood Drive will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown in La Grange. Eat a full meal before donating and bring your photo ID. Walk-ins are welcome.

Program on ‘Old 300’ Land Grants Set Aug. 29

Did you know that the very first land grant surveyed in Stephen F. Austin’s Colony was the Sylvanus Castleman half league (2,214 acres) just a few miles from La Grange? In August 1823, even before the town of San Felipe was surveyed, Seth Ingram was sent to survey land that Castleman already lived on, keep good field notes, and return to prove to Austin and the Baron de Bastrop that he knew how to survey land, particularly along meandering river banks.

Constitution Week Is Sept. 17-23

Sept. 17-23, marks the 69th year the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will celebrate Constitution Week. On Sept. 17, 1787, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution. As these delegates were leaving the Pennsylvania State House church bells were rung. To honor the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, the Smith-McMillan Chapter of DAR will host a Bells Across America ceremony.

Senior Connections Continues to Thrive

The expansions of Senior Connections satellite campuses into neighboring communities is going very well. Senior Connections is carrying out its goals of bringing mealbased programs to people that cannot safely get to the Schulenburg campus.
