The quality of our teachers impact students well beyond their academic growth. Teachers are strongly linked to significant increases in high school graduation rates, college completion, and salary earnings. Texas teachers also impact their students’ physical, social, and emotional health. Unfortunately, far too many teachers have left the profession in recent years.

La Grange is mourning the death of Miles Leonard, a 2024 LHS graduate, who died Friday evening in what officials are saying appears to be the accidental discharge of a handgun. The incident, which occurred on Lane Pool Road, is still being investigated by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Rangers.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath announced that The 100 Club will present La Grange Patrol Officer Mitchell Maxwell with an Officer of the Year award. Gilbreath nominated Maxwell for the award after saving the life of fellow officer Kevin Currington on May 9 of last year.

Workers with Supak’s Inc. poured a concrete slab for the new German-Czech Mart at the Fayette County Fairgrounds on Thursday, Feb.

Dusty Bernshausen was announced on Dec. 26, 2024 as the winner of the 1955 Ford F-100 truck raffled off by Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) and signed off on the title this past Tuesday. The staff, volunteers, and board members had a fun time showing off this beautiful truck, donated by John and Betty Burkland, to raise much needed funds for the upgrade in the canine kennels at the shelter.

Fayette Electric Cooperative, Inc. has partnered with EXO to inspect steel and concrete electrical poles within its service territory. The project will begin on Feb. 17 in the Weimar area, including Holman, Dubina, New Bielau, Osage, and Oakland.
