Schulenburg Festival Royalty Help at Special Needs Pageant

Miss Schulenburg Heaven Hrachovy and Miss Schulenburg 1st Runner-up Agnes Tofel had the opportunity to be a part of the Miss Sparkle Special Needs Pageant on Sunday, July 20, at the Cuero ISD Performing Arts Center. The pageant was created eight years ago by sisters Dallyn and Delynn Pesek, which allows young ladies with special needs to showcase their talents and beauty. Hrachovy and Tofel were given the opportunity to be contestant buddies and spent all day with their assigned contestant as they prepared for the contest, escorting them to hair and makeup, making sure they ate and then by helping crown the winners at the end of the pageant. It’s was such an amazing moment to watch each contestant shine on that stage.

Tradition & Transition

Hundreds of members filled the KC Community Center, eager to enjoy the activities organized by Fayette Electric Cooperative employees for the annual meeting, then settled in to visit with friends and wait for the business session to begin. Many come every year, a summer ritual that turns a community gathering in La Grange into a de facto appreciation for the efficient and reliable service the co-op has provided to seven counties since 1937.

It’s An Uphill Battle Dealing With Mother Nature

A huge dead pecan tree near the pathway down to the river at White Rock Park in La Grange dropped another of it branches recently. A walkway has been cut through the branch for visitors, but Monday, a city employee and a contractor were examining the area and trying to work out a plan to more permanently remedy the situation. The tree is very difficult to get to. The entire steeply-sloping area around the walkway makes for a constant struggle to keep back the encroach of Mother Nature. In other La Grange parks related news, there has been some online complaints about the lack of mowing maintenance in some park areas, but amidst the wetter-than-normal summer, grass is growing faster than it can be cut in some areas — but areas complained about online seemed to be quickly addressed.
