Czech Delegation Helps Amidst Hill Country Flooding

A team of firefighters and K9s from the Czech Republic were in the Texas Hill Country last week helping with the recovery efforts from the July 4 floods. The 16 firefighters and their specially trained dogs were part of the Czech Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR), a division of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic.

Fair Gets ‘Hometown Grant’ from T-Mobile for $50,000

Winchester VFD Fish Fry Saturday

The 27th Annual Fundraiser Fish Fry and Auction will be held on July 26 at the St. Michael’s Pavilion in Winchester.

The meal will be served from 5-7 p.m. The meal will be a free-will donation, and you may dine in or carry out.

There will be a silent auction running from 4-6 p.m. and a live auction will begin after 6 p.m. If you are interested in donating to the auction, call or text Jacki Short at (979) 702-2229.

Back-to-School Bingo St. Michael’s Lutheran Church is holding a Back-to-School Bingo night on Sunday, Aug. 3 from 4-6 p.m.

About 1,000 Lose Power Locally Thursday

Fayette Electric Cooperative (FEC) reported an outage early Thursday morning, July 17, that left 1,032 members without power for about two and a half hours. FEC said a tree fell on a line near Golden Valley Lane northwest of La Grange. Power went out around 12:48 p.m.. Linemen restored power around 3:10 a.m.

Round Top-Carmine Class of 1961 Reunites

The Round Top Carmine Class of 1961 held their 64th class reunion on Saturday, July 12 at JW’s Steakhouse in Carmine. Eighteen class members were present. Missing were Minnie Ann Wagner Chovanec and Kirby Rummel, with a total attendance of 25. Their 65th reunion will be held at the same place, time and date, July 11, 2026 with the same committee in charge. The afternoon was enjoyed by all.

Pesticide Waste Collection In Grimes County July 23

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), in cooperation with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, will be hosting a free Agricultural Pesticide Waste Collection Event in Grimes County on Wednesday, July 23. The event will run from 8 a.m. noon at the Grimes County Expo & Fairgrounds, 5220 FM 3455, in Navasota.
