Hail, Yes! Ice Chunks Pelt Fayette County

We’re hearing reports of damaged roofs and cars as Thursday night’s storm pounded wide portions of Fayette County with massive hail not seen here in years. .

For the Record

The City of La Grange will have roll off containers available to residential utility customers for hard to dispose of items. These containers will be located at the City Service Center inside the yard and customers will have to show their utility bill receipt to be able to discard their items. These containers will be available Monday through Friday, April 24-28 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. No tires, batteries, construction debris, paint or chemicals will be accepted. Only one set of mattresses per utility bill will be accepted. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units must be tagged certifying that the refrigerant has been removed by a certified technician. April Sales Tax Soars For City of La Grange

New La Grange City Manager Fred Bell got an unexpected boost for his first month on the job from State Comptroller Glenn Hegar. When the top Texas money man sent April sales tax rebates to cities, La Grange got $283,400 – more than half again its usual amount.

PAT Hosts Safety, Self Defense Training

The Schulenburg/Weimar Parents as Teachers (PAT) held a group connection safety training on Thursday, April 13, at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar. Hardy Hay, retired Houston Homicide Investigator and current Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy, gave a presentation on situational awareness.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of March 19-25. Animal Complaint On March 19, Officer Juan Castilleja was dispatched to the 2200 block of Summit for a loose calf on Hwy 90 west of town.

Special Unit Raids Carter Motel Room

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office raided a room filled with drugs at the Carter Motel in La Grange on Monday, April 17. Investigators seized 4.8 oz of methamphetamine, 6.8 oz of ecstacy pills and over one pound of marijuana, along with narcotic sales paraphernalia and a 9mm handgun.
