Sacred Heart Altar Society Met Sept. 8
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Sept. 8, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports provided by the secretary and assistant treasurer. Five thank you cards were read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Nineteen ladies attended the meeting.
The Spirituality Report was given by Marian Tajchman and included a reflection on some of the Feast Days celebrated in September particularly those honoring Mary. They include the Feast Day of the Nativity of Mary, The Most Holy Name of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Mercy. Sept. 14 also celebrates The Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek spoke about Father Chris’ plan to incorporate both the German and Czech heritage with the Spanish heritage on the remembrance table in the Narthex commemorating All Souls Day to better reflect all the cultures of the parish. She also informed members that the cleaning schedule would now be included on the church calendar which is available on the website and thanked Martha Lutringer for the bookmarks that she made for the Deanery meeting. Karen also inquired about the possibility of creating a group email for Altar Society members to expedite the sharing of information. It was reported that Peggy Sulik and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, April Feray reported on the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the months of May through August. Emma Proske reported sending three get well cards to members in need. Judy Langhamer reported on the six funeral lunches that had been hosted during the summer months since the previous meeting and also gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Anna Boyd informed members that Sacred Heart volunteers are scheduled at Second Chance from Sept. 1622 and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible. She also made a request to members to donate snacks for the volunteers on work days whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, one new member, Martha Lutringer has been approved by Father Chris. It was reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business, Emma reported that the current membership roster has been updated with the most current information available. A suggestion was made to put a notice in the bulletin to remind members to update their information as it changes and to please pay dues. Judy Langhammer gave a report on the ECCW meeting held in La Grange on July 22 and recognized all of the ladies who helped to make it a success. Ample desserts and door prizes were provided by volunteers and a generous amount of food items to be donated to AMEN was collected at the meeting. The next ECCW meeting will be in Rockdale on Oct. 28.
Under new business, ladies discussed getting more members involved in the activities of the organization and one possible new member was suggested.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
