From a One-Room School to a Sub Commander

On the last day of school in May 1947, Miss Eliza Lackey dismissed her students at Luck School. In high spirits, the youngsters in her six grades flew out of the one room schoolhouse west of La Grange near O’Quinn. They were eager to trade their classroom lessons for additional farm chores and perhaps some summer fun.
In a U.S. Navy career that spanned more than three decades, J. Weldon Koenig saw the world. The native of the Black Jack Springs community in western Fayette County retired as a rear admiral. He went onto a second career in the cogeneration business before retiring with his late wife, Nancy, on the hill in the countryside where he grew up. Photo by Elaine Thomas

Mueller Graduates From A&M

Dr. Brendan K. Mueller graduated from the Texas A&M University Health Science Center College of Medicine on May 16. It was a virtual commencement and viewed at the home of his parents, Tommy and Susan Mueller. Also attending the small gathering was his wife Dr. Julia Mueller, Uncle Brian Mueller and grandparents, Theo and Gladys Svec and Jo Ann Mueller. Dr. Brendan K. Mueller and his wife will be making their home in San Antonio where he will be doing his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in pediatrics.

Court Sacred Heart Installation of Officers

Court Sacred Heart of Mother Teresa No. 2570 held their Installation of officers on Monday, June 1. The newly installed officers will hold their elected office for a term of two years. Also in attendance was Joan Simper, district deputy No. 30 from Shiner and Virginia Olsovsky, Texas State treasurer and member of Court No. 2570. Court Sacred Heart of Mother Teresa No. 2570 is comprised of members from Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, Cistern; Sacred Heart Church, Flatonia; and St. Mary’s Church, Praha. St. Rose Church Sets Fundraiser For June 14

While St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg will not be able to hold its annual parish picnic due to the COV- ID-19 pandemic, a fundraiser will be held on Sunday, June 14 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 405 South St.
