The Texas Education Agency released guidance to school districts last week about how schools will reopen this Fall semester amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The State will require all schools to provide on-campus instruction in the Fall.

Fayette County Commissioners voted to ban outdoor burning for 90 days at a meeting held on Thursday, July 9. Fields across the County that were green a month ago turned brown over the last couple of weeks as temperatures exceeded 100 degrees.

Construction progressed rapidly at the Falcon View residential subdivision in Schulenburg over the past few weeks. Eight of the 36 rent homes that are planned for the new neighborhood were beginning to take shape last week. The Falcon View neighborhood is being built by DSW Homes LLC using Hurricane Harvey disaster funds from the Texas General Land Office. A New Waverly teen suffered injuries after a wreck at the intersection of US 90 and Interstate 10 between Schulenburg and Weimar on Thursday. The accident happened around 3:46 p.m., according to a crash report from DPS Trooper Louis Gabler.

Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau told Commissioners at a meeting last Thursday that the coronavirus positivity rate in Fayette County stands around five percent. That compares to about 16.4 percent statewide.
