The local Chamber of Commerce Lickskillet float participated in the Round Top Fourth of July parade last Saturday. Riders included the Lickskillet Queen Julie Korenek and members of her court, Harper Mau, Junior Miss; Sawyer Mau, Little Miss; and Whitney Bradley, Young Miss. The float won second place and was pulled by a truck provided by La Grange Ford and driven by Randy and Cheryl Otto.

Schulenburg Police Department recently won a federal Justice Department grant to hire two new officers. The grant will pay 75 percent of the officers’ salaries for the next three years.

The Texas Wildlife Association has decided to offer their Annual Convention Educational Seminars online for free this year due to COVID. There are a huge variety of seminars at this link provided, including some wild game cooking demonstrations and several seminars that 4-H members might find interesting.

The Round Top Town Council voted in a special meeting on Monday to reschedule the town’s sesquicentennial celebration to May 8, 2021. The celebration honoring the town’s 150th birthday was supposed to take place less than a month from now, on Aug.

Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge No. 151 had the opportunity to award their first ever scholarships. This celebration was on Thursday evening, June 25. Lila Garlin, president, called the event to order with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag followed with the common table prayer. Linda Mattocks presented the first scholarship to Megan Krause, daughter of Calvin and Suzanne Krause. Megan will be attending Blinn College in the fall with a goal for a career as a dental hygienist. Her parents and sister Mallery, all members of our lodge, brought their support. The second scholarship winner was Aiden Wagner, son of Jason and Karen Wagner. Aiden will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall and is working toward a degree in aerospace engineering. His plans include flying and possibly working at NASA with the space program. His parents and grandparents, Wayne and Pearlie Wagner, all members of the lodge, were his special guests. Both of these seniors have received other scholarships and could qualify as professional speakers. Their remarks were enjoyed by all. Gary Goebel with the help of Herman and Alejendra Alba served a meal of barbecue on a bun with beans, potato salad, pickles, onions and tea. Dessert was a special cake in honor of the graduates.

The Lee County DPS Office released a photograph of the driver accused of fleeing the scene of the wreck that killed Byler Lehmann last year near Warda. As reported in Tuesday’s paper, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Ulises Arzate Gudino, 41 of Mexico.
