Tarleton State University has released its President’s List in May, which recognizes full-time undergraduate and graduate students earning a 4.0 GPA for the fall and/or spring semesters of each academic year. Named to the President’s List for Spring 2020 is Carson Svrcek of La Grange, who is majoring in public administration. He is the son of Brian and Linda Svrcek.

The organ at St. Paul Lutheran Church will be dedicated this Sunday, August 2, at 2 p.m. with a virtual concert featuring several excellent organists, most of them from St. Paul. You can help the church with a contribution to the organ fund for the refurbishing.

Giddings Times & News • A late release of information by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is a major factor in the decision to delay the first day of school for Giddings ISD students. The TEA has committed to providing a learning management system for districts to track student progress and attendance but has yet to announce which system will be used.

Father Bob Knippenberg, who has been serving as the priest for the last several weeks at the Hostyn and Plum Catholic churches following the retirement of Father Dan Kahlich, will officially be installed by liturgical rite as the new priest of those parishes. Bishop Brendan Cahill will be the celebrant as Father Bob is installed as pastor of Queen of the Holy Rosary, Hostyn and Sts. Peter & Paul, Plum, during the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday, August 1 at Hostyn.

At least eight automobile accidents including one fatality happened in Fayette County over the span of two days on Tuesday, July 28 and Wednesday, July 29. The first wreck happened Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m.
