Mystery seeds from China began showing up in some Texans’ mailboxes over the past week. Fayette County Agrilife Extension Agent Scott Willey said he has heard no reports of the seeds arriving in Fayette County. However, he warned residents not to plant the seeds if they do receive an unsolicited package.

The 36th Annual Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association (JBBA) National Show and Convention was held at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton from July 19-24. The Karisch Cattle Company Clan and friends attended the week-long event. They checked in on Sunday, July 19, with a trailer load of beefmaster heifers.

State Says COVID Death Toll Here is 13 Not Five

The Texas Department of State Health Services announced Monday that it changed the way the state counts coronavirus fatalities. That same day, the number of coronavirus fatalities in Fayette County jumped from five to 12.

Bulk of County Fair Cancelled; Entertainment Fees Avoided

The Fayette County Fair Association announced after a board of directors meeting Monday night that there will be no county fair this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, the Fair Association will sponsor a few events that were scheduled to take place, including the Queen’s Contest, livestock show, commercial heifer show and sale, parade and barbecue cookoff.
The Fair Association will ask those artists whose performances were cancelled this year (like Joe Nichols, above) to perform at next year’s fair.

Tragedy Strikes Visitors After a Local Funeral

The five people who died in a horrific accident on US 77 north of Schulenburg last Friday were all family members from the Metroplex area who were in Fayette County to attend a funeral. A preliminary accident report from the Texas Department of Public Safety identified the deceased as Vanessa Marie Thamez, 36; Karen Lizet Orantes, 47; Anessa Lisette Arrevalo, 19 and William Jackson Gonzalez, 1, all of Grand Prairie, and Alexandria Skye McCaa, 13 of Arlington.
