James Longmire sold the Lyric Theater along with the rest of the Foster Building in downtown Flatonia last Friday, July 31. The new owners are Freyburg-based artist Terry Ehler and her husband and muralist John Knotts. The couple plans to keep the theater operating.

Life’s just like riding a bike, right? And no one knows that better than Bob McCowen. Mc- Cowen, 72-years-old, has been in the bicycle business for the past 38 years and has seen firsthand how the coronavirus has impacted the bicycle business, in a surprisingly positive way.

Blake-Ann Fritsch graduated in May from Texas A&M University with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural communications and journalism and a minor in recreation parks and tourism. She was a member of the Texas A&M Softball team. Blake-Ann was on the SEC Athletic honor roll, AD honor roll, Dean’s list and is a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar. She was the softball representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and also the Leadership council for athletes. Blake-Ann will be continuing her graduate studies at Texas A&M. Blake-Ann is the daughter of Doug and Holly Fritsch of La Grange.

Fayette County Democratic Meeting The Fayette County Democratic Party’s monthly meeting will be held on Zoom at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug.

Father Alberto Carbajal, who has been the pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange for the past year resigned his position as pastor last week. The church congregation was informed over the weekend.

Since the ordinance was passed requiring face masks in public amidst the pandemic, La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said he and his department have gotten calls about violations of the ordinance.

The Schulenburg Young Farmers Hay Show and Sale scheduled for Sept. 3 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Holding Pens Flatonia Livestock has new holding pens for the Ellinger area. The pens are located at the juncture of Kasmiersky Road and Schumacher Road north of Ellinger.

Bike Ride Rescheduled The Fayetteville Good Old Summertime Classic Bicycle Ride has been rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 15.
