Red Wall Portraits II Opens At the Red & White Gallery This Saturday from 3-6 p.m.

F or the 2020 International FotoFest Biennial event, Joan & Jerry Herring exhibited more than 200 photographs at the Red & White Gallery of visitors to the gallery in front of its vivid red walls. That show, with print sales going to help build the Fayetteville Community Center & Performance Theater, started off as an enormous success on opening night before the country shut down three days later for Covid and the show closed. Now, the “Red Wall Portraits II” exhibit opening this Saturday from 3-6 p.m. is a continuation of the community-focused photography project.

Shelter Caring For Over 100 Animals

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. The shelter is closed to the public on Monday with staff onsite for animal care from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Reclaims are allowed on Monday after 10 a.m. by appointment. If you believe your lost pet may be in care, call (979) 966-0021 to confirm and learn requirements for reclaim.

Holiday Hold’em Online Holiday Wellness Program to Begin Nov. 23

Would you like to maintain or even lose weight this holiday season? A Multi-County Community Wellness program, Holiday Hold’em will begin soon, says Sally Garrett, Fayette County Extension Agent Family & Community Health. This free online challenge is a six-week series dedicated to helping you maintain your weight during the holidays. The goal of this program is for you to maintain your weight within two pounds over the holidays. You will also be encouraged to focus on consuming five servings of vegetables and fruits each day, as well as engaging in regular physical activity. Starting on Nov. 23 you will weigh in weekly at home, your fitness center, or your preferred site. Weight and health logs will be provided to help keep track of your habits and progress throughout the series.

Fayette County Area Go Texan Awards $70,000 In Scholarships

Fayette County Area Go Texan is happy to announce the awarding of scholarships to 30 outgoing senior students in Fayette County for year of 2025. This year FCAGT awarded $59,000 for academics and for the first time is awarding vocational scholarships in the amount of $11,000.
