Heat Lamp Catches Chicken Coop on Fire

A small chicken coop burned down on Schulle Rd. near Warrenton on Wednesday, Jan. 28. Round Top-Warrenton Fire Chief Calvin Krause said the fire appears to have started from a heat lamp.

Krause said the owner discovered the fire after waking up and called 911 around 5:33 a.m. Upon arrival, Krause said the coop was engulfed in flames. The building was approximately 10 feet by 20 feet, half enclosed and half screened in. It was a complete loss, Krause said. He did not know how many chickens were inside, but none survived.

Firefighters spent about 45 minutes extinguishing the flames before returning to their station.
