Four students recently graduated from the Blinn College District Professional Truck Driving Program with certificates recognizing that they have acquired the skills necessary to earn their commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).

The county-wide feral hog contest is being held to give landowners, producers, and sportsmen an opportunity to control feral hogs in Fayette County. The feral hog population causes economic losses to Fayette County agriculture producers through crop destruction, pasture and livestock losses, and environmental damage.

Local charity Presley’s Power (which assists families dealing with childhood cancer) was able to visit San Antonio Military Medical Center before Christmas and spread a little joy. Gift bags were handed out to patients on the pediatric oncology floor. The bags were filled with fluffy blankets and stuffed animals. Presley’s Power was also able to stock Presley’s Pantry, which is on the same floor.

Emerging as one of the most notable young artists of the new millennium, Grant Maniér (maun-yay), a young talented eco-artist combines his two worlds: autism and art. His obsession with paper became his form of art therapy. Grant is changing the perceptions of how to reduce, reuse, and recycle by creating extraordinary collages using thousands of pieces of recycled calendars, magazines, posters, puzzles, and more. From an owl made from movie posters to dolphins crafted with applesauce lids, Grant is raising the awareness and beauty of recycling.

A barn near Winchester burned to the ground Monday morning, Jan. 4. A tractor parked inside the barn was destroyed in the fire. Firefighters also discovered the body of a car among the debris. About 11 hay bales sitting nearby also caught fire and burned.

Fayette County should get another delivery of coronavirus vaccines next week, according to Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau. The County is currently out of vaccines.

St. Mark’s Medical Center has been “inundated” with calls from people 65-older and those with serious medical issues seeking to get the COVID-19 vaccine this week.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath reported that at least three vehicles were burglarized in the Lynnwood neighborhood early Tuesday morning. All of the vehicles were unlocked, Gilbreath said.
