St. James BBQ
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, Jan. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $3.50 and a sausage link $5, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Turtle Wing Foundation. The Holy Smokers will be observing COVID protocols.

Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus will be serving BBQ to go on Sunday, Jan. 10, a whole chicken $9, sausage $6 and a rack of ribs $18. Early call in orders encouraged. Pick up at Fayetteville St. John’s Church hall BBQ pits starting at 10:30 a.m. When picking up orders please comply with CDC guidelines to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Retired Teachers
The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association (FCRTA) will hold a Zoom meeting, Jan. 11. The Zoom link will open at 1:30 p.m. for fellowship; meeting begins at 2 p.m. For questions and information about Fayette County Retired Teachers Association, call (361)772- 3068. Remember while the name may imply only teachers, all retired school personnel are needed and will be warmly welcomed even if from another city or county.
LGISD Nominations For Gifted & Talented
La Grange ISD is taking nominations for the Gifted and Talented program for the 2021-2022 school year. The Talent Pool and LEAP programs are designed to provide additional challenge and stimulation for academically talented students. Parents, teachers, and community members may nominate students currently enrolled in LGISD in 1st -11th grade to participate in the screening process to determine eligibility for the gifted program. Nomination forms are available in the office on each LGISD campus or on the La Grange ISD website. FYI Series at Winedale
The Briscoe Center for American History at Winedale and the Round Top Family Library FYI invite you to join a virtual Zoom lecture Tuesday, Jan. 12 at noon: “The Underground Railroad Through Texas and Into Mexico.” Roseann Bacha-Garza of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will discuss that while most pathways of the Underground Railroad lead north to Canada there was also a movement of enslaved people through South Texas and into Mexico. American Legion, Auxililary Meeting
The American Legion Post 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. The members are invited to attend to discuss some business matters for the new year. Face masks and social distancing required.
La Grange Hermann Sons Lodge 8
The La Grange Hermann Sons Lodge No. 8 will have their first monthly meeting of the new year on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Riverside Cafe. All members are invited to attend.
Food Truck at Waldeck Lutheran Church
The Central Texas Food Bank Truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the Junction of FM-1291 and FM-2145 on Friday, Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. It will be drive-thru only and all clients are to remain in their vehicles. Someone will be there to direct traffic. Clients are advised to make room inside their car trunks and truck beds. Food boxes will be pre-packaged and placed into each vehicle by volunteers.
Chicken Noodle Soup & Bake Sale
The annual homemade chicken noodle soup and bake sale will be held Sunday, Jan. 17 at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Hostyn from 9 to 11 a.m. and at the Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Plum from 11 to 11:30 a.m. The sale is sponsored by KJZT No. 23 to benefit Young Neighbors in Action and Just5Days, the youth service groups of the parishes. Reserve your soup by calling the Parish Office (979) 247-4441, ext 2. Soup is $6.50 per Quart. Chicken salad and homemade noodles are also available.
RT Historical Society Annual Garage Sale
The Round Top Area Historical Society is hosting their annual garage sale at 399 E. Mill St. behind the Post Office on Feb. 13, 14, 20 and 21. They are requesting your donations of gently used items in anticipation of this garage sale. If you have furniture or household items to donate, contact Rose Diers at (713) 376-9594. A donation form can be provided. They do not accept clothes or obsolete electronics.
