William Carroll Blackwell passed away on Jan. 13, and was laid to rest with graveside services in Pitman Cemetery Jan. 21. Carroll was the son of the late William Roy Blackwell and Estelle Fleck Blackwell. Carroll was a small business owner most all of his life.

Navidad Valley Community Connections Center to Re-Open

Well, it’s official. Navidad Valley Community Connections (NVCC) Center in Wolter’s Park in Schulenburg will re-open on Monday, Feb. 1. NVCC will start off slow, being open on Mondays and Wednesdays for now, and will start planning on building the daily program with activities and projects to attract folks back to the Center.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Thursday afternoon around 03:15 p.m. Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Chevy truck for a traffic violation on 1-10 W/B at the 658 mm near Flatonia. During contact with the driver Smith observed Criminal Indicators and consent to search the vehicle was given. Smith located three military-type AK 47 Assault Rifles, a 9 MM handgun pistol, and $28,600.00 of U.S. currency in bags. Arrested was 33 yr. old Rodolfo Reyes of Donna, Tx. who was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Felony Money Laundering.

LGISD Western Art Advances to Houston Rodeo Show

The artwork of these La Grange ISD students will move on to compete at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and will hang at the Hayloft Gallery at NRG for the duration of the rodeo. The public is invited to the local HLSR Western Art Show on Saturday February 13 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m at the La Grange High School cafeteria.
