La Grange Volunteer Fire Department put out a big pile of debris that caught fire on Von Minden Road Thursday afternoon, March 4. The call came in around 2 p.m.

Coronavirus vaccines are slowing making their way into Fayette County. Most residents have had to travel to the distribution hub in Brenham for a shot. But last week, about 200 firstdose shots were administered locally through two separate efforts.

Last week the Texas Governor lifted the mask mandate effective this Wednesday, but Thursday La Grange Superintendent William Wagner sent this message to parents: “The Texas Education Agency has issued new guidance in response to Governor Abbott’s Executive Order GA-34. TEA has recommended that schools continue to require masks for anyone over the age of 10.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services: • 3,892 people in Fayette County has received at least the first dose of the COVID vaccine. That’s nearly 20-percent of the estimated population of the county that is over the age of 16 (20,879).

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Tuesday afternoon around 5:53 pm the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a vehicle fire on I-10 W/B at the 665 mile marker near Flatonia. The Flatonia Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival it was reported a pickup truck was fully engulfed. Deputies A.J. Gonzales, Seth Nagel, and Drug Interdiction Investigator Jeramy Ellison responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control. It was reported to Law Enforcement the driver had left the scene in another vehicle. When the license plate was checked on the 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck it had been reported stolen in the morning from Austin. The truck fire spread to the grass median and was quickly extinguished. The truck was a total loss and the Austin Police Department was notified of the recovered stolen vehicle.
