Stolen Vehicle Left to Burn by Driver
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Tuesday afternoon around 5:53 pm the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a vehicle fire on I-10 W/B at the 665 mile marker near Flatonia. The Flatonia Fire Department was notified and responded to the scene. Upon arrival it was reported a pickup truck was fully engulfed. Deputies A.J. Gonzales, Seth Nagel, and Drug Interdiction Investigator Jeramy Ellison responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control. It was reported to Law Enforcement the driver had left the scene in another vehicle. When the license plate was checked on the 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck it had been reported stolen in the morning from Austin. The truck fire spread to the grass median and was quickly extinguished. The truck was a total loss and the Austin Police Department was notified of the recovered stolen vehicle.
