The first in-person meeting of the Winchester Area Civic Association this year is scheduled for April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Zilss Hall. A “Meet and Greet” will be held prior to the meeting in order to get to know all our new members and celebrate in-person meetings again. Although many have received the COVID vaccination, the association will still be following COVID protocols with mask wearing and social distancing. The membership drive has been successful so please come and meet your new neighbors.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of February. Deputy Ben Wilson investigated an accident on State Highway 71 where a vehicle struck the guardrail.

Christina and Wallace Cherry welcomed a new granddaughter. On March 5 Gracelynn Haze Danials made her arrival. She tipped the scales at six pounds ten ounces and measured nineteen and three quarter inches long. Her parents are Brittany Bailey and Trey Danials of Smithville. Everyone is doing great.

Fayette County Commissioners signed a proclamation last Thursday designating the month of April as Autism Awareness Month in Fayette County. The proclamation recognizes the Turtle Wing Foundation for the services it provides to children on the autism spectrum and their families. Turtle Wing serves more than 500 youths in Fayette, Lavaca, Colorado and surrounding counties. The City of La Grange’s mask ordinance went away March 10, the day Governor Greg Abbott lifted the statewide mask mandate. La Grange City Manager Shawn Raborn told the City Council at a meeting Monday night that the City’s mask ordinance, which went into effect last July, was based on provisions in Abbotts executive orders.

At the Navidad Valley Community Connections Center, we are gearing up for the Spring Fling Sale on Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it looks like the weather will cooperate. Plan to come out and support the senior center. There will be a small raffle, once an hour, at 9:15, 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, and 1:15 for some take home prizes and you do not have to be present to win. The small raffle tickets will be $1 each or 3 for $5.
