Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that the Fayette County Undercover Narcotics Unit received information about a burglary of an unoccupied building that was being planned in the La Grange area. On the evening of Monday, March 8 the narcotics unit conducted a surveillance operation on the building and with the assistance of Deputy Michalec apprehended the suspects attempting to leave the building with stolen property.

Catholic Daughters of the America’s Court Annunciation No. 1962 met on Feb. 22. The meeting opened with prayer and special intentions for member Patricia Villasana, who passed away on Jan. 29, 2021.

Giddings Times & News • The Lee County Fair has been canceled for the second year in a row. After last year’s fair was called off due to COVID-19, the Lee County Fair Association has announced this year’s event, scheduled for May 13-15, will not take place.

The Blinn College District Board of Trustees approved new tuition and fee rates for the 2021-22 academic year during its regular meeting Tuesday. The board authorized a $2 per credit hour increase in tuition and general fees for all students.

Representative Ben Leman (whose district includes Fayette County) filed legislation on Monday, March 8, as part of a series of bills filed this Legislative Session by other legislators to allow the criminal justice division of the governor’s office to identify municipalities and counties that adopt budgets that reduce the funding or personnel allocated for law enforcement agencies.
