Winedale’s Leon Hale Dies at 99

Leon Hale, one of Texas’ most beloved writers, died Saturday at the age of 99. He lived out his final years of his life at his “country place” with his wife Babette near the Fayette/Washington County line in Winedale after retiring from the Houston Chronicle in 2014.

Free Rides to Vaccine Sites

Capitol Area Rural Transportation (CARTS) is offering free rides to anyone in their service area who needs transport to a vaccination clinic. Those seeking a ride to a clinic can schedule one by calling (512) 478-RIDE.

Homebound Here Have Vaccines Brought to Them

Dozens of National Guard troops conducted a door-to-door coronavirus vaccination drive intended for homebound residents of Fayette County last Friday. Fayette County Emergency Management organized the effort.

Live Oak Trees Dedicated to Local Czech Center Pioneers

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center dedicated six live oak trees on the grounds of the Center’s Czech Village in La Grange on Saturday afternoon, March 13. The trees were planted in honor of several Czech descendents both living and deceased who have been deeply involved with TCHCC.

The City of La Grange, the La Grange Police Department and the La Grange Citizens Police Academy are pleased to announce that in conjunction with the Spring Clean Up, the city will host a Secure Document Shred Day on Saturday, April 24.

4-H, FFA Members Deadline to Purchase Tags is April 12

Major Show Steer Tags Any 4-H or FFA member in Fayette County who plan on showing steers at the 2021-2022 major shows must place an order for the number of tags they wish to purchase. The costs of these tags are $22.00 each and must be ordered through the Fayette County Extension office no later than Monday, April 12 by 5 p.m.
