March 26-30, 1971 Falstaff Feed Division paid a record $1.65 a pound for Jerry Krebs’ 810-pound Charolais steer at the 12th annual Fayette County Junior Livestock Show. Jerry was a member of the Fayetteville FFA Chapter.
A police standoff on Interstate 10 ended in the self-inflicted gunshot death of a driver who led authorities on a 95-mile chase. The name of the deceased has not been released.

Leon Hale, one of Texas’ most beloved writers, died Saturday at the age of 99. He lived out his final years of his life at his “country place” with his wife Babette near the Fayette/Washington County line in Winedale after retiring from the Houston Chronicle in 2014.

Dozens of National Guard troops conducted a door-to-door coronavirus vaccination drive intended for homebound residents of Fayette County last Friday. Fayette County Emergency Management organized the effort.
The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center dedicated six live oak trees on the grounds of the Center’s Czech Village in La Grange on Saturday afternoon, March 13. The trees were planted in honor of several Czech descendents both living and deceased who have been deeply involved with TCHCC.

Major Show Steer Tags Any 4-H or FFA member in Fayette County who plan on showing steers at the 2021-2022 major shows must place an order for the number of tags they wish to purchase. The costs of these tags are $22.00 each and must be ordered through the Fayette County Extension office no later than Monday, April 12 by 5 p.m.
