Vehicle Total Loss After Fire in Schulenburg
Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department put out a vehicle fire Tuesday night, May 4.
Schulenburg Fire Chief Jeff Proske said his department got the call around 9:30 p.m. Proske said the vehicle was a commercial service truck. No one was injured, but the vehicle was a total loss.
“It started somewhere in the engine compartment,” Proske said of the fire. “The driver said he heard a ‘pop’ like a blown out tire. When they pulled over, fire was coming from under the coming.”
Proske said the vehicle contained some magnesium, which hampered firefighting efforts, since magnesium fires burn more violently in the presence of water.
SVFD responded with two grass trucks, a tanker and eight firefighters. They remained on scene until a tow truck arrived around 11:30 p.m.
