Demolition should begin soon on the flood-damaged homes along Country Club Drive near La Grange. Those homes have sat vacant since the Hurricane Harvey flood of 2017. The federal government provided buyout funds for the affected owners. The State of Texas distributes those funds, and an independent grant administrator hired by the County will eventually deliver those funds to the property owners.

The Fayette County Record made a road trip to Branson, Missouri when COVID was winding down. Enjoying the ride were Annette and Richard Martinek, Rhonda and Jerry Vaja, Carol Globke, Joe Fietsam, and Carol and Donnie Havemann. The highlights of the trip were the Titanic Museum, Branson Belle Showboat dinner cruise, Silver Dollar City, and Top of the Rock with nature trails, waterfalls, and numerous rides.

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of On June 6-11. Assault On June 6, Patrolman Mitchell Maxwell was dispatched to the 500 block of Cindy Lane in regard to a subject that was threatened with a gun.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Monday, June 14 a pursuit from Gonzales County continued into Fayette County with numerous marked patrol units assisting in the pursuit. After a lengthy pursuit the suspect vehicle came to rest at 722 West Parker Road outside of Flatonia.

Celebrating the end of the year of Parents As Teachers, a graduation ceremony was held on June 8 at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. In attendance were approximately 86 parents, children, friends, volunteers, and educators.

Starting Wednesday, Aug. 4, a healthy meal planning program called “Healthy Home Cooked Meals” will be offered by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County for three consecutive Wednesdays ending on Aug. 18. The classes will be conducted from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane, Room 104, La Grange.
