Juneteenth: Celebrating Freedom

This is the day that we must move forward.

We must do everything as Americans that we can to make young people aware of what our forefathers sacrificed – our rights as human beings and to be able to be respected as men and women. You see, they worked hard to make it better for their children even when it meant giving up their life so that we may live. It is our responsibility to never let this day die. We must become a positive force in this community that we love and call home. We must show our young people by example what positive support for them is. We must get them involved in the celebration of our freedom, and the understanding of their rights. We need this platform to continuously bring growth to this community. There must be some diversity in order to understand each other. We all have sacrificed and have made a big difference here in our home La Grange, but the Elders are all getting older and their dreams have become reality. Our children are growing up. Let’s make this year greater than the last. Getting parents from all around our city to be involved to contribute just a little bit of your time. It makes no difference who you are! After all, this is a neighborhood-by-neighborhood project. The following is information regarding our Black History. We as black Americans have a very rich history. We need to inform some of our young brothers and sisters of that very fact. This is a humorous and revealing story. It was told to a group of people that was just fed up with people of color so they joined together and wished themselves away. They passed through a deep dark tunnel and emerged in sort of a twilight zone where there was an America without people of Color. At first they breathed a sigh of relief.

At last they said, “No more crime, drugs, violence and welfare. All of them have gone!”

Then reality set in, the “New America” is not America at all – only barren land. There are very few crops that have flourished because the nation was built on a slave-supported system.

So they traveled to the big city. Thank God for Mr. Richard Spikes a Black man who invented the automatic gear shift and Mr. Alexander Mils, a black man that invented the elevator. Mr. Joseph Gambol, also a black inventor, invented the supercharger system for internal combustion engines, and there’s Mr. Garrett A. Morgan with his contribution of the street light. But when it it all said and done, Black History must include more than just Slavery, We love our Country we have fought in every war defending our Country and we are still being misunderstood. If you never talk to a person you will never know them. As a community we have to be just that: a community that cares for each other. We must set an example for Texas as well as the whole World. We ask God for his guidance and presence in our quest to preserve the sacrifices for our Emancipation Day.
