June is National Reunification Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of keeping families involved in the child welfare system together and recognizing how the community can better support these families.

The annual Crops Tour is an educational event for anyone who is interested in row crop production. The tour will be held on Monday, June 21, at the Fayette County Agricultural Building, 255 Svoboda Lane in La Grange. Registration is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and will conclude about 12 noon followed by a catered barbecue lunch.

The Shared Lutheran Ministry of Fayette County is offering Day Camp July 26-30 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville. The camp will be for grades K-5th grade; 6th-high school students will be needed as helpers. Children can be dropped off as early as 8 a.m. for breakfast. The cost is $50 and includes lunch and all supplies.

A crew from Warda won in the 1st Annual Gerald Birkelbach Scholarship Cookoff that was held June 12-13 in Giddings, great cause honoring a great barbecue legend. Ashley Schmidt, Kristy Hentschel, Kylie Schmidt, Ryan Hentschel, Trey Melcher and Mason Becker were the team that won First Place Chicken, First Place Ribs and First Place Mystery Box.

The Texas Ramp Project completed this 42-foot ramp off of Hwy. 237 in Warrenton on June 10.

A jam-packed, siren-blaring victory celebration took place on the square Thursday, June 10 at 6 pm. just a few hours after our Fayetteville Lions became Texas 1A High School Baseball State Champions that afternoon. Amid cheers and speeches by the coaches and players, the team (starters include: four freshman, three sophomores and two seniors) led by Coach Clint Jaeger and Assistant Coach Marcus Sodek, were honored for bringing home the gold. This is Fayetteville’s eighth tournament appearance.

Our 3 Angels which is a non-profit founded in memory of Amber Polasek, Brandon Schulze, and another close friend – recently made a $500 donation to Turtle Wing Foundation. Their fundraising events allow the nonprofit to provide help for those in need and help support a brighter future for the youth of our community.

National Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as our national symbol by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
