City of La Grange hotel occupancy tax (HOT) receipts in April jumped more than 256 percent over the same month last year. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic certainly depressed the market for hotel rooms last year.

La Grange City Council appointed Chris Jernigan to fill the Council seat for Ward 4, which former Councilman Pat Janca vacated when he moved outside of the City earlier this month. Jernigan was among four who applied for the open position.

Ron Knotts recently had an accident and broke his knee cap. His golf cart was in need of repair and he and Pam carried it over to Bastrop to get a stripped hub replaced. While unloading the cart Ron managed to lose his balance as he was dismounting the trailer only to fall on concrete. He landed on his knees and rolled to avoid injury, only to find he had hurt his knee. Upon going to the ER later he was told he had broken his patella. After seeing his orthopedist he was placed in a brace and is now recovering.

It seems to be tradition for Turtle Wing Foundation that the weekend that their Jack Hooper Day at the Ballpark & Homerun Derby is to be held, it rains. This was the case again for their 10th annual derby that was held on May 1. Organizers were able to successfully offer all of the activities that day due to the protection of the Wolters Park pavilion except the official MLB Jr. Home Run Derby.

The Lower Colorado River Authority is offering grants of up to $50,000 for community projects throughout LCRA’s wholesale power, water, and transmission service territory. Applications for this round of Community Development Partnership Program grants will be available online beginning July 1 and must be submitted by midnight on July 31.
