Jernigan Appointed to Fill Janca’s Spot on La Grange City Council

La Grange City Council appointed Chris Jernigan to fill the Council seat for Ward 4, which former Councilman Pat Janca vacated when he moved outside of the City earlier this month.

Jernigan was among four who applied for the open position. The others were Richard Chernosky, James Little and former Councilman John Eilert. The Council spent about 20 minutes deliberating the appointment during a closed-door executive session Monday night, June 28. After reconvening, Council voted to appoint Jernigan unanimously with the exception of Dusty Littrell, who was absent from the meeting.

In his application, Jernigan said he served 10 years in the United States Air Force and currently works at LCRA as a senior category buyer. The North Carolina native said he moved to La Grange in 2008 after “fall(ing) in love with our community and decided that it felt like the home I was looking for.”

“I want to be a good representative for my ward and provide communication between the people of my ward and City Council,” Jernigan said in a call with the Record on Wednesday.

Jernigan said one issue he wants to address is providing citizens with video of City Council proceedings on the City’s website.

“I’ve been here for a while and wanted to get more involved with my community besides coaching sports and athletics and things like that,” he said. “I want to be involved with decisions that impact myself and my kids.”
