An inattentive driver struck a fire truck on July 4 in Carmine. Carmine firefighters were putting out a 18-wheeler fire on US 290 when the wreck occurred.

Avery Ward, a senior at La Grange High School has joined the list of five other locals running for Fayette County Fair Queen. She is sponsored by the La Grange Optimist Club and takes the place of previously announced candidate Tiyonna Washington.

Talk around Round Top about public housing mustered about half the town to a meeting on the morning after Independence Day, Monday, July 5. About 50 people squeezed inside the old precinct courthouse, near where many of them gathered the day before for the town’s 171st Fourth of July Celebration.

More than 125 campers and adults who attended a summer camp at Camp Tejas, just across the Fayette County line in Lee County, say they have tested positive for coronavirus, according to a statement from Clear Creek Community Church Lead Pastor Bruce Wesley.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that investigators recently arrested four local men for damaging the Frisch Auf! Golf Course back in May. The arrests followed a weeks-long investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

In the summer of 1972, the Schulenburg community was anxious. The year before, the Schulenburg Shorthorns had gotten as far as the Class A state football semi-final championship, a very respectable showing, indeed. A prestigious publication called Dave Campbell’s Texas Football picked the Shorthorns to take the title, even though the school board had just hired a coach named Tom Walker.

When a child enters the foster care system because their home is no longer safe, a judge may appoint a committed volunteer to help them. That volunteer is called a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). CASA volunteers are screened and highly trained and then appointed by judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interests in the child protection system. CASA volunteers are each assigned to help one child or set of siblings at a time, so they can focus on giving that child or sibling group the individualized advocacy and attention they need.CASA of Bastrop, Fayette, and Lee Counties continues to provide valuable volunteer advocacy for every child that has experienced abuse or neglect in this area. Recently Randy Stork and Dale Holly teamed up to do some repairs to the block at the top of the flag pole in the Muldoon Community Park. Dale lifted Randy up in the bucket of his tractor to get him into place to do all the repairs. This enabled them to get everything ready for a beautiful flag display for the 4th of July. The park is located at the corner of FM 154 and West FM 2237, be sure and check it out as you are going through Muldoon.

Carmine Chamber of Commerce will sponsor their Probst Casino Night with a German theme on Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Carmine Hall.
