Navidad Valley Community Center Implements New Safe Environment

Navidad Valley Community Connections Center in Wolters Park will be closed from Monday, Aug, 2 through Monday, Aug. 9, for safety reasons as the City of Schulenburg crews work on festival preparations. The Navidad Valley Community Connections center has a new office number. The new office number is (979) 743-3227.

Schulenburg Police Report

The Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports that Officers responded to 65 calls during the week of July 17-22. On July 17, Officer Gindler arrested 23 year old Blake Edward Pesl of Waelder for public intoxication and failure to identify and transported him to Fayette County Jail.

School Supply Drive The KJT Society No. 46, La Grange, is holding a school supply drop-off drive for Sacred Heart Catholic School.

Hostyn, Plum Youth Volunteer in Minnesota

Youth from Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Parish in Plum and Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish in Hostyn traveled to Minnesota last week to take part in a Catholic Heart Work Camp. The group spent of week volunteering around the Minneapolis and St. Paul, including working at a food pantry distribution center, above. They also worked at several home of elderly residents in the area. The kids enjoyed Christian fellowship with other youth from around the country and slept at Holy Family Catholic School in Victoria, Minnesota, where they also had daily Mass and faith programs. Catholic Heart Works Camps held a number of similar events around the country this summer. A Catholic Heart Work Camp was held in La Grange in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Commissioners Hear Opposition to Water Plan

Fayette County Commissioners heard from two people opposed to a proposed update to a regional groundwater plan affecting the Carrizo Wilcox aquifer system at a meeting last Thursday, July 22. Kent Babcock, a retired anesthesiologist from La Grange, and Andrew Wier, a groundwater rights activist from Bastrop County, asked the Commissioners to sign a proclamation urging the Fayette County Groundwater Conservation District (FCGCD) to reject the proposed plan before Groundwater Management Area 12 (GMA-12), the regional water planning group that includes a portion of Fayette County.

Picnic Season is Back

The Summer Church Picnic Season came back this year after most of the celebrations were canceled last summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A few local parishes decided to cancel their parish picnics once again this year.
