The City of La Grange Community Development is proud to announce that Texas One Stop, located at 1704 E. State Highway 71 Bypass, is the most recent recipient of a Facade Grant. The grant funding assisted Texas One Stop in reconfiguring their façade, enclosing the porch, and moving the entrances to create more square footage and a more secure environment. Fayette Electric Cooperative celebrated its 84th Annual Membership Meeting in a new way on Wednesday, July 21. At the time that plans were being made in February, the Centers for Disease Control were still advising against large gatherings of people in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. With safety its primary concern, the co-op’s board of directors decided to host Fayette EC’s first virtual annual meeting.

Charlie Murray, the manager of the Texas Heroes Museum, asked the Fayette County Commissioners Court for permission to erect a memorial at the Old Fayette County Jail in La Grange. Murray said the memorial would honor Texas veterans who died in combat, especially those from recent wars.

Sixteen members of the Angelo State University track and field teams, including James (Cason) Brown of Schulenburg, have been named 2021 All-Academic Athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (UST-FCCCA).

An inmate who escaped from the Gonzales County Jail on Wednesday, July 21, was captured Sunday night, July 25. The escape happened approximately 10:34 p.m.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Wednesday signed HB 133, a bill sponsored and passed by Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) to increase Medicaid coverage for new mothers in Texas from two months to six months postpartum. Kolkhorst said that expanding new post-pregnancy maternal care is a pressing need for qualifying Texas women and serves as an efficient and effective use of state and federal dollars.
