Hallettsville Man Killed at Party in Rural Lavaca County
19-Year-Old Suspect Held on $750,000 Bond
A 31-year-old Hallettsville man was shot and killed early Sunday morning, July 18, at a party in rural Lavaca County.
Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim at John Calloway of Hallettsville. Deandre Enoch of Yoakum, a 19-year-old former star running back and linebacker for the Yoakum High School football team, has been arrested for the killing.
Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon reported that the party took place at the 2100 block of County Road 157A southeast of Hallettsville near the community of Vienna. Deputies responded shortly after 1 a.m., Harmon said.
“This occurred on the county road,” Harmon told the Record. “The party somehow got posted on social media. A bunch of people showed up. A lot of them were parked on the side of the county road and were basically partying out there on the County Road.”
Deputies found Calloway dead from a gunshot wound. Enoch was arrested for murder later the same day. He is being held at the Lavaca County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
That same night another shooting took place outside the Yoakum Community Center in Yoakum, where a quinceañera was taking place. Two men were reportedly shot in the parking lot. Harmon said the two shootings were not related.
