Public Hearing Important For LCRA Permit Request

To the Editor: We residents of Fayette County are asked to respond to the TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) if we believe it’s harmful to local water resources and wildlife for LCRA to apply for a permit to change pollution discharges at the Fayette Power Project. According to the Record (Friday, Oct.

If You Can’t Say Anything Nice...

To the Editor: I’m aggravated, frustrated and irritated about what is going on in our country and with our citizens. There is such lack of respect for our President of the United States.

Mueller and the Max Tax

To the Editor: In last Tuesday’s edition of the FCR, current County Judge Dan Mueller said the following: “I am also proud that we have been working to keep our county tax rate low…in fact we have lowered the county’s tax rate every year that I have been in office.” I would like to remind Judge Mueller and Fayette County residents of a few facts concerning the Judge’s history with taxing his neighbors. The judge and the commissioners court have raised actual property taxes to the MAX, every year of his term.

Animal Shelter Experience

To the Editor: I am a proud Texan and proud to love and serve here in Fayette County. I drive to La Grange regularly and I stopped in at the Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter as I have ample time to volunteer my services as a dog-walker.

On Memorial Trees

I recently got into a discussion with a friend about donating trees for replanting forests in memory of deceased friends and family members, and have spent some time since then thinking about the advantages (or not) versus ordering flowers or making some other charitable donation to honor the life of a now-deceased friend or family member. This decision is not one to be made lightly, as how we choose to allocate our money often says a lot about our values. Remember that comment Jesus made about “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”?

The Texas Legislature redrew the maps at the request of President Donald Trump in hopes of gaining five additional GOP seats.

Faith an Antidote for Worry

Don’t worry, be happy... makes a great song, but it seems that it is becoming increasingly more difficult not to worry. Studies show that our culture is becoming more proficient at worrying, anxiety, and depression. The same research shows that more than 50% of us worry about money. Which, in the current climate, makes sense. What else do you worry about? Family and friends, upcoming to-dos, our health, our lack of sleep, our politics, and, as parents, the world that we are leaving behind for our kids and grandchildren.

Talk of Unity & Understanding

To the Editor: To the writer of “Unity, Understanding Needed.” It’s always amusing when Democrats talk about unity and understanding. One only has to look at how Democrats handled, and are continuing to handle, President Trump’s election and presidency to see they couldn’t care less about unity and understanding.

Rule by Women

Recently I found myself in a discussion about whether women have ever truly ruled societies. Was matriarchy a myth, or did it actually exist somewhere back in the dust of history? Turns out, there’s no shortage of books, essays, and passionate arguments on the subject.
