On Nov. 4, 166 non-profit representatives and funders from across Texas gathered at Blinn College in Schulenburg for the inaugural Rural Philanthropy Day hosted by the Fayette Community Foundation and the Stanzel Family Foundation.

The Navidad Valley Cattle-Women (NVCW) is a non-profit organization with the primary focus of beef promotion and education in South Central Texas. The Navidad Valley local works to support local youth with scholarships and provide quality information on the industry and how to incorporate beef into a healthy diet. Since 2006, the Giddings Public Library has hosted the Texas Word Wrangler Book Festival. This year’s Nov. 18-19 festival features 24 Texas authors who will be available to meet personally with festival attendees.

The La Grange Senior Citizens Activity Center, Inc. held their fall meeting/luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. President John Rice welcomed the group and board member Audrey Huenefeld, who gave an inspiring prayer. The group then pledged allegiance to the American and Texas flags led by Glenn Altwein. Secretary Helen Oestreich read the minutes of previous meetings and Treasurer Marilyn Strmiska gave the treasurer’s report. Phil Oestreich reported 7 members of the group enjoyed a tour of Washington on the Brazos and then had lunch in Brenham on Oct. 6. Cash door prizes were handed out to 10 lucky winners.

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 1962 held their monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 24. The meeting was opened with prayer followed by the CDA Opening Ode and pledges. The charter was draped during the meeting in honor of our deceased member, Angie Kleiber, who passed away on Sept. 30, at the age of 87. She was a member for almost 40 years.
