This Saturday, between 450 and 500 bike riders will fill the square to kick off The Rock n’ Road 100 bike ride sponsored by Trek Bikes. Riders can register onsite up to the morning of the ride at www.rocknroad100. com.

The route includes Fayetteville, Round Top, Industry and New Ulm. A shorter gravel route has been added this year. It’s 36 miles.

When the riders return, lunch catered by Peter’s BBQ, will be served on the square, a massage therapist will be on site and a small band will join in the festivities which should run until 4 or 5 p.m.

“Mayor Mike really helped with lots of the planning and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Dept. was also great. Jerry and Joan Herring are hosting at the Grand Fayette for the pre-dinner,” said Mynette Murtagh, race director. “A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department. Randy Noviske explained how the drought was really extra work for all of them, their supplies were limited and new equipment needs to be purchased. My nine-year old daughter joined me when we talked. He gave us a tour and let her sit in the new fire truck. It was a great experience and we’re so glad we can help.”

Picking Park A group of bluegrass enthusiasts are pickin’ again this Saturday beginning between 2-3 p.m. All levels of pickers are welcome to continue the tradition of live, acoustic bluegrass jamming in the town square. For more information on Fayetteville Picking Park, go to https://www.facebook.com/ groups/100734977031117.

Turkey Stew Don’t forget the 42nd annual Turkey Stew and Bake Sale held by St. Paul Lutheran this coming Saturday at the old fire station in the square. Serving to go begins at 10:30 a.m. Quart size to-go cups available but if you want more for a crowd, bring a heatproof (non-plastic) container.

Proceeds from the event are designated for renovations for the church.
