Bluff Gorilla On the Mend

The famous bluff gorilla that stands watch along Highway 77 in La Grange was playfully bandaged up, right, by his owners the Mihatsch family after a semi truck overturned on the highway about 10 p.m. Monday Jan. 22 and took out the metal fence in front of the big guy.

A sell-out crowd enjoyed a two-hour performance of 10-time Grammy-winning Western Swing band “Asleep at the Wheel” Saturday at Festival Hill. For over 50 years, Asleep at the Wheel’s band leader, Ray Benson, pictured right at Saturday’s show, has been touring the globe. Saturday’s show was a benefit concert supporting the Festival Institute. Round Top Festival Institute founder James Dick met Ray Benson after both received the Texas Medal of Arts Award presented by the Texas Cultural Trust.

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels Meets Wednesdays

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

The food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. The cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.
