Legendary Band, Legendary Venue

A sell-out crowd enjoyed a two-hour performance of 10-time Grammy-winning Western Swing band “Asleep at the Wheel” Saturday at Festival Hill. For over 50 years, Asleep at the Wheel’s band leader, Ray Benson, pictured right at Saturday’s show, has been touring the globe. Saturday’s show was a benefit concert supporting the Festival Institute. Round Top Festival Institute founder James Dick met Ray Benson after both received the Texas Medal of Arts Award presented by the Texas Cultural Trust. James Dick received the award in 2009 for arts education and Benson for music in 2011.
