Festival Hill Volunteer Service Day This Saturday

Saturday, Feb. 3, is Volunteer Service Day at Festival Hill beginning at 9:30 a.m. The annual Valentine’s Concert and Bybee Library Reception is Saturday, Feb. 10. The 2 p.m. concert supports the Festival Institute’s Faith P. and Charles L. Bybee Library and Study Center. Tickets can be purchased online at www. festivalhill.org or by calling the Festival office at (979) 249-3129.

In July of last year, Kevin Hromas threw a big birthday bash for his wife Lorri’s 65th birthday. Hromas gifted her with a two-week cruise to Antarctica, set to depart in December. The couple recently returned and happily reported that it was the “best vacation ever.” “It gives a new meaning to the term ‘White Christmas,’” stated the couple. “It is something that should be on everyone’s bucket list of things to do. Penguins, seals, icebergs and whales were all spotted along the cruise and on shore excursions.

When newbies come into Second Chance Emporium, their first question is often, “Where did all this stuff come from?” The simple answer is, “Us.” Good-hearted people from the community donate things they no longer need or want to the non-profit store in La Grange. For example, Ramsie Warnken of Schulenburg rolled up to the Second Chance donation door recently with a car full of things.

Quilt Block Classes Return to Winchester

After a three-month hiatus, the Winchester Quilt Block classes will begin on Feb. 10. The classes taught by Margaret Atkin, Pat Karisch and Rhoda Gersch start at 10 a.m. and will run to 4 p.m. at Zilss Hall. The class participants will complete a two-foot by two-foot quilt board suitable for hanging on a fence, barn, porch, etc. You must register for the class at quiltblocktrail. com. La Grange Mayor Jan Dockery reminds everyone that Friday, Feb. 2, is National Wear Red Day. The day is an effort by the American Heart Association to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease in women.
