Helicopter Called in to Fight Fire Near Warda

Helicopters dumped water on the Whirling Pines Fire along Highway 77 in Warda Monday. Initial estimates of the fire’s size has been scaled back from 40 acres to 25 acres. No injuries have been reported. The fire started when a tree fell on a power line.

Texas Wendish Heritage Society Plans Annual Fish Fry in Serbin

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society will host their Annual Fish Fry on Sunday, March 15 in Serbin. The meal consists of fried fish, homemade potato salad, pinto beans, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling (979) 366-2441 or email museum@texaswendish.org. Deadline to reserve tickets is Wednesday March 11.

Lodge 23, Moravia celebrates SPJST’s 129th Anniversary

On Saturday, March 14, 2026, SPJST Lodge 23, Moravia hosts the SPJST’s 129th Anniversary Celebration at two beloved landmarks -- the SPJST Lodge 23, Moravian meeting hall and the Moravia Store. Festivities kick off at 11 a.m., with dine-in or togo plates by Tom’s BBQ of Schulenburg, followed by a short program at 1 p.m. and live music by The Czechaholics at the Moravia Store from 2–6 p.m.. The lodge hall will be showcasing artifacts on loan from the Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center of Temple with a country music backdrop provided by Kendra Krupala. Proceeds will support the restoration of the Lodge 23 hall.
