Helicopters dumped water on the Whirling Pines Fire along Highway 77 in Warda Monday. Initial estimates of the fire’s size has been scaled back from 40 acres to 25 acres. No injuries have been reported. The fire started when a tree fell on a power line.

M The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church has been very busy getting their new property cleaned up, and fenced. They are preparing for an Old-Fashioned Tent Revival on April 18.

The next City Council meeting is this Monday at 7 p.m. in the City offices.

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society will host their Annual Fish Fry on Sunday, March 15 in Serbin. The meal consists of fried fish, homemade potato salad, pinto beans, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. Fayette County Habitat for Humanity will hold a bourbon drawing to help generate funds for their Home Repair Program in Fayette County. The drawing includes thousands of dollars worth of prizes.

On Saturday, March 14, 2026, SPJST Lodge 23, Moravia hosts the SPJST’s 129th Anniversary Celebration at two beloved landmarks -- the SPJST Lodge 23, Moravian meeting hall and the Moravia Store. Festivities kick off at 11 a.m., with dine-in or togo plates by Tom’s BBQ of Schulenburg, followed by a short program at 1 p.m. and live music by The Czechaholics at the Moravia Store from 2–6 p.m.. The lodge hall will be showcasing artifacts on loan from the Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center of Temple with a country music backdrop provided by Kendra Krupala. Proceeds will support the restoration of the Lodge 23 hall.
