High Hill Picnic Fun

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in High Hill held its annual picnic on Sunday, Sept. 1 The day started with Mass followed by a delicious fried chicken and stew dinner. Children enjoyed games and fun in the big sand pile next to the pavilion (right). A live auction took place throughout much of the afternoon. Mark Halata and Texavia (above) along with Texas Sound Check and the Texas Sundown Band provided music for dancers (below) throughout the day and night. Everyone also enjoyed the fireworks show that evening.

At last week’s Noon Lions Club meeting in La Grange Lion Michael Ahart was recognized for his service to the community as he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship. This is the highest award made among Lions International.

Festival Hill to Host Mariachi Aztlán Sept. 21

On Saturday, Sept. 21, Mariachi Aztlán will be a part of the August to April Series, in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. AMEN Serves 370 Families in August

The AMEN Food Pantry continues to serve large numbers. The call for assistance from the community to assist with providing food was excellent and thanks to all that assisted with the food shortage.

Go Gold for Childhood Cancer in September

Representatives from the nonprofit group Presley’s Power hung a gold ribbon on the big oak tree at the Fayette County Courthouse in recognition of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. St. Mary 74th Annual Bazaar A Huge Success

The 74th Annual Bazaar is one for the record books. Thanks to the many generous donors, buyers, diners and volunteers, this Bazaar was a phenomenal success. Nearly 1,700 plates of Uncle G’s fried chicken (our own secret recipe) were sold. More than 300 guests were on hand for the Grand Live Auction where Father Steve’s Cherry Pie sold for $10,071 and to witness the raffle drawing for more than $22,000 in Visa Gift cards prizes.

LHS Celebrates Students Earn Awards from College Board National Recognition Programs

Students at La Grange High School earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs celebrate students’ hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance. The academic honors for first generation, rural area, Black, Indigenous, and/ or Latino students are an opportunity for students to share their strong academic achievements with colleges and scholarship programs that are seeking to recruit diverse talent.
