Ahart Awarded Highest Honor in Lions Club

At last week’s Noon Lions Club meeting in La Grange Lion Michael Ahart was recognized for his service to the community as he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship.

This is the highest award made among Lions International. Lion Ahart is often the first to volunteer for just about every Noon Lions Club event, serving in a significant way from the beginning in the flag program fundraising efforts, now in its third year. Serving in every Serve 12 service project including roadside cleanup, the Care Inn “fishing tournament,” butterfly garden work days, the spring meals, and others. One of our Lions club members offered that they believe Lion Ahart wakes up every morning and asks, “I wonder who I can help today?”

Beyond the Lions Club, Lion Ahart serves in numerous volunteer efforts throughout the community including volunteering at Second Chance and with his church.

Additionally, he has served for the past two years as co-chair of the LEO club, where we now have over 60 student members participating across the middle school and high school grades. This role involves at a minimum twice monthly meetings at the schools, tracking service hours, and helping to organize leadership opportunities for students. This mentorship role continually provides LEO club members with Leadership, Experience and Opportunity in a broad range or areas.

Lion Founder Melvin Jones is known for this quote: “You can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else.”
