After Two Years, LG Man Indicted For Bank Robbery

A Washington County grand jury indicted 53-year-old Shawn Patrick Childers of La Grange for the aggravated robbery of the Burton State Bank two years ago.

Memorial Day - Social Distancing Style

While several public Memorial Day observances in the area were either cancelled or held online only, the Carmine EDC and the American Legion Post 338 held a drive-up Memorial Day Service of Remembrance Monday at Carmine’s Muehlbrad-Albers Park. Attendees had to either stay in their cars or stay distanced from one another because of coronavirus precautions. The Schulenburg Festival Association hopes to move forward with this year’s “National Party of Texas,” scheduled to take place July 31 to Aug. 2.
LCRA, CITY OF LG AWARD $10,000 TO CZECH CENTER

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center will replace the aging roof of a popular amphitheater, thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of La Grange.

What the senior Class of 2020 has lacked in actual school events this spring, they’ve made up for in socially distant attention. From the regularly changed marquee at the Lyric Theater in downtown Flatonia (lower left) highlighting different seniors, to the big banner placed on the courthouse lawn Friday in La Grange showing all the Leopard seniors, people in the Fayette County have done their best to show this year’s seniors that even if they can’t be congratulated in person (because of the coronavirus precautions) they are not forgotten.

Schulenburg native and international businessman Carman Kobza donated nearly 50,000 face masks to first responders, nursing homes and other agencies that need them throughout Fayette County and the surrounding area last week.

After months of postponements because of the coronavirus, the La Grange KC Hall was a flurry of activity again Wednesday as the KCs hosted a drive-thru fish fry to raise money for KC charities. Fireworks May Have Sparked Ellinger Fire

Ellinger firefighters put out a small grass fire in a pasture off Power Plant Road on Sunday, May 10. Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department got the call around 3 p.m. on Sunday. They quickly got the fire under control. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported that two roman candle fireworks were found in the pasture. No one else was at the scene when firefighters arrived.

Hide No Hair: Barbers/Salons are Back

The sound of clippers buzzing through hair once again spilled out of the doorway at 237 W. Travis Street last Friday, the site of Ken’s Barber Shop on the La Grange Courthouse Square. Inside, barbers Ken Jurecka and Floyd Weishuhn worked on a pair of customers who’ve waited nearly two months for a trim. Another customer waited outside the door.

The Round Top-Carmine Independent School District has announced its Honor Graduates of the Class of 2020. Julia Patterson has been named the Valedictorian. Julia is the daughter of Randall and Linda Patterson. Aidan Wagner has been named the Salutatorian. Aidan is the son of Jason and Karen Wagner.
