Fayetteville Starting Five Are Newest County Athletes of the Week

The Fayetteville boys basketball team made it to the state tournament for the first time since 1943, in part thanks to the strength of a starting five that are a coach’s dream. Keagan Supak, Lawson Fritsch, Easton Jaeger, Brody Dooley and Jake Kubala are a group that can score points in bunches, and give opponents headaches with their tenacious defense.

Flatonia Baseball Continues Rolling

The Flatonia Bulldogs picked up two victories over the weekend at the East Bernard Tournament. On Thursday, the Dogs defeated Stafford 12-7.

LHS Updates: Softball Rolling

The La Grange girls softball team has turned around their overall record in a hurry after winning all six games they played at the Seguin Tournament last week. The Lady Leps beat Harlingen 10-3, Andrews 12-3, Uvalde 113, Roma 13-1, Laredo United 8-6 and Incarnate Word 4-3.

Local Athletes Shine at Flatonia Track Meet

The Flatonia boys won the team title at their home track meet Thursday with 159 points and Schulenburg was fourth with 66. On the girls side, Shiner win the team title with 159 points.

Shorthorns Fall to Giddings 7-2

The Schulenburg baseball team lost to Giddings Tuesday at home 7-2. Jaysa Janda, Aaron Janecek and Connor Lichknosky had the game’s three hits for the Shorthorns.

Flatonia Powerlifters Shine

On Saturday, February 17, the boys powerlifting team traveled to Rice Consolidated High School for their third meet of the season. The team continued to progress in their overall weights as senior Gentry Doyle turned in his best performance of the year, posting a 975 total while still in the 123 weight class. His total was an 85 pound increase from the meet a few weeks earlier. The total placed him in a tie for 3rd in the region. Sophomore Lukas Gutierrez also improved his overall weight by 75 pounds to reach the 1,000 pound mark. Lastly, newcomer and freshman Dylan Hughes turned in a 920 pound total in the 308 weight class, placing him in the top 12 in the region. Both Gentry and Dylan finished in 2nd place in their weight classes at the meet.
