Fayette Area Swim Team Continues Its Record-Breaking Start to Season
The Fayette Area Swim Team (FAST) continued its impressive start to the summer season during its second meet of the year against the Columbus Catfish and Rockdale Aquatics. After an outstanding opening meet, FAST swimmers once again demonstrated the results of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to the sport.
While many families are still asleep, FAST swimmers have been putting in the work. With practices beginning at 6:45 a.m., swimmers of all ages have embraced the early mornings and challenging workouts. That dedication showed in the pool as 39% of the team improved their times from just one week earlier, a remarkable accomplishment considering the short time between meets.
The meet also produced another historic day for the FAST record book, with swimmers combining to break 13 additional team records.
FAST relay teams continued their dominance by setting new team records in the Girls 13-14 100 Yard Freestyle Relay, Boys 13-14 100 Yard Freestyle Relay, Girls 15-18 100 Yard Freestyle Relay, Boys 15-18 100 Yard Freestyle Relay, Girls 13-14 Medley Relay, Boys 13-14 Medley Relay, and Girls 1518 Medley Relay.
Individually, several FAST swimmers continued to rewrite the record book.
Senior Eleanor Carey once again proved why she is one of the most accomplished swimmers in team history, breaking both her 15-18 Girls 50 Yard Freestyle and 50 Yard Backstroke records that she had set just over a week earlier at the season-opening meet.
Andy Wyatt added his name to the record books by setting a new FAST record in the 13-14 Boys 50 Yard Backstroke.
The Emmel sisters continued their impressive start to the season as well. Adalyn Emmel broke her own 11-12 Girls 50 Yard Butterfly record that she established just one week earlier, while Makenna Emmel set a new 13-14 Girls 50 Yard Butterfly record.
Not to be outdone, Garrison Ulrich delivered a standout performance in the 1314 Boys 50 Yard Butterfly, swimming a record-breaking time and establishing a new FAST standard in the event.
“Our swimmers continue to amaze us with their work ethic and determination,” said the FAST coaching staff. “Breaking 13 more team records and seeing so many swimmers continue to improve after only one week is a direct reflection of the effort they put in every morning at practice.”
With two meets completed, FAST has already shattered 30 team records this season and continues to build momentum heading into the heart of the summer schedule.
If the first two weeks are any indication, the future remains bright for the Fayette Area Swim Team.
