The American Legion Post 102, VFW Post, American Legion Auxiliary, and VFW Auxiliary, all from La Grange, celebrated America’s birthday in the historic and festive Round Top Parade. The flaginspired 250 birthday float was followed by Americana-themed Jeeps to complete their Patriotic entry, which received First Place for that division. Members from each organization were honored to enthusiastically recognize the birthday of the USA at a parade.

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 is all smiles as members receive their first grant from Second Chance Emporium. The Auxiliary will continue their veteran support efforts like backpacks for hospitalized veterans, scholarships for veteran’s children, fundraising efforts with the Veteran’s Ball on Sept. 12, 2026, Poppy Distribution before Veteran’s Day, and the holiday visits to Assisted Living or homebound Veterans. With the grant, the Auxiliary can expand the awareness of the Unit’s activities and mission across our community to those who want to continue to support our local veterans and veteran spouses/families. All are welcome to an Auxiliary Meeting; always the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at VFW Hall located at 500 Veterans Memorial Drive, La Grange. As Schulenburg celebrates its new royalty, the Schulenburg Festival Scholarship Pageant family is taking a moment to recognize Heaven Hrachovy, who has been part of the pageant since she first stepped onto the stage at age 4.

The Gulf Coast Blood Center will be on the square near the old fire station for the community blood drive sponsored by the Fayetteville/ Ellinger Knights of Columbus this Saturday from 8 a.m. till noon. The need for blood is critical—your donation can save a life.

Tejas Camp and Retreat Center will be hosting a Free Family Fun Day on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 3-7 p.m. This will be an afternoon filled with great food, exciting activities and wonderful time together. Free burgers will be provided by Feed The Need. Activities will include swimming in the lake and pool, climbing wall and zipline, as well as ax throwing and plenty activities for all ages. No RSVP is needed, children 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult, no drop-offs. Bring sunscreen, towels (if swimming), dry change of clothing and close toed shoes if you are doing the climbing wall or zip lines.

The next Bingo at the Carmine Hall will be on Friday, July 24. Doors open at 4 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. Twelve regular games and two cover-all games are played. Food and drinks will be available. RT-C School News
