Dog Days in Walhalla

Danny Rinehart sent us this photo of his weather station, located in the Walhalla area of northern Fayette County. Last Friday, July 10, the station recorded the temperature at 103 degrees and the heat index at a scorching 119 degrees. The readings were taken at 4:16 p.m.

Second Chance Donates $10,000 to St. Mark’s

Second Chance Emporium presented a $10,000 check to St. Mark’s Medical Center to be used to purchase vital sign monitors and patient care equipment. Accepting the check for St. Mark’s was Laurie Quitta, medical/surgical director; Sarah Muir, RN; and Sharon Claxton, radiology.

When Chelsea Beck and her husband, Pastor Dustin Beck, were considering a move to the Warda area, chickens were one of the things on her mind. “I’ve wanted chickens for five years. I’m like that city mouse that comes to the country; I just love country life.”

Pastor Fitch Celebrates Ordination Anniversary

The Reverend Dr. La Verne John Fitch entered Concordia College in Fort Wayne, Ind. in 1952 for his pre-theological training. He graduated from the Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Ill. on May 30, 1960. He was ordained by his home pastor the Reverend Hilbert Huth (St. Michael-Wolcottsville, N.Y.) and installed by the Rev. Dr. Paul Boriack, first vice president-Eastern District at Redeemer Lutheran-Oneida, New York on July 3, 1960.

Nominations for the 2020 Texas Historical Commission’s (THC’s) Preservation Awards have been extended through July 31, 2020. The THC offers these annual awards to recognize the most accomplished and prestigious historic preservation leaders and projects in Texas.

CVICA/Bybee Awards 2020 Scholarships

CVICA is pleased to announce this year’s scholarship winners. In partnership with the Faith P. and Charles L. Bybee Foundation and along with the Carl L. Wendler Family, the organization will once again award $2,000 to each student in three counties; Colorado, Fayette and Lee.
