Earlier this spring, I had some seeds left over after starting some plants in my greenhouse. I don’t remember what seeds they were, but I grabbed some and scattered them on the ground next to me greenhouse as an experiment into what would grow without care.

CASA Announces Recent Appointments

CASA of Bastrop, Fayette and Lee Counties is pleased to announce the recent appointment of (pictured from left) Ryan Malone, Barbara Winn-Wolridge, Lindsay Weeks, Ally Wallaert, Melody Rainwater, Tina Thurston, Jill Messina and Vincent Messina as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) by Judge Benton Eskew on Aug. 10. CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties endeavors to provide trained volunteer advocates in all abuse and neglect foster care cases assigned by the courts. CASA volunteers are screened and highly trained and then appointed by judges to represent and advocate for a child’s best interest in the child protection system. Navidad Valley CattleWomen Welcome Perspective Members

The Navidad Valley Cattle-Women (NVCW) are a local chapter of Texas Cattlewomen and have been serving the tricounty area of Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca counties since 2004. Like any volunteer run organization, encouraging new members is critical to keep the mission alive.

Carmine Vehicle Burglars Arrested

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on the morning of August 17, Fayette County Sgt. Charles Jobb responded to a residential address off of US Hwy. 290 in the Carmine area for a burglary of a motor vehicle call.

Fayetteville Gets Sidewalk Improvements

Phase 1 of the sidewalk improvement project has been completed. Bids are out for Phase 2. Requests for erecting additional ADA compliant ramps and handrails are being considered in this second phase. In addition, discussions are underway regarding crosswalks potentially located in front of Dybala’s, the Red & White Gallery and the future home of the Yonder Way Farm to Market store. The project is scheduled for completion on Dec. 31.

Conway Whited Benefit this Sunday

The benefit for Conway Whited, infant son of Justin and Amanda Whited, will be held Sunday, Aug. 22 at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. If you purchased meal tickets you can pick up the to-go plates from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Baked goods will be available for a free-will donation. Raffle tickets are also being sold for $20 each. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m. on the same day. Winners do not have to be present to win and it will be streamed via Facebook live. Meal ticket deadline has passed but raffle tickets are available at the church office at (979) 242- 3333 or by contacting Justin at (979) 966-2443 or Amanda at (979) 966-8339.
