The La Grange Noon Lions Club recently completed their monthly service project which is participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Their stretch of road is located from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and going north to just past FM 2145. The Noon Lions would like to thank members from the LG Evening Lions Club, as well as some of the staff from HT Fitness, for assisting with this effort this year.

Wildfires have been raging in the western parts of the country and Muldoon has a local connection to the fire suppression efforts. Bobby Ivy, an employee of the Texas A&M Forest Service was assigned to the Lone Star State Hand Crew at the first part of August. He was part of a Type 2 Initial Attack Crew comprised of twenty Texas Forest Service fire management personnel. These are specially trained and qualified individuals from all over the state that were put together to help with large wildfires on the local and national levels.

Fayette County Fair Plant Show winners were announced last Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Fairgrounds.

Republican Women The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 16 at Sealand Restaurant located at 2359 W.

At a meeting last Thursday Fayette County Commissioners discussed applying for a grant to purchase backup power generators for critical infrastructure in the County, especially water pumps. Historic freezing weather this past February crippled local water utilities.

James Brossmann, one of Schulenburg’s most prominent citizens, died in a tractor accident on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The number of fatalities from the coronavirus in Fayette County has jumped from 80 to 83 in the past week as active cases remain high. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, there were 233 active cases of coronavirus in Fayette County as of Sunday. There was good news at LGISD late last week. After a combined 25 cases in the district Tuesday and Wednesday last week, there were only three cases total Thursday and Friday

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. their office received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle and grass fire on State Hwy. 71 westbound near Halstedt Rd. The La Grange Fire Department and Ellinger Fire Departments were notified and responded to the scene along with Deputies Ryan Meagher and Ted Thomas. Upon arrival it was reported the vehicle was fully engulfed and a large grass fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no reported injuries. The driver said he was driving on his property when the vehicle stopped running.’ As he walked back to his house the grass caught fire under the vehicle and spread quickly. The 2005 Nissan Xterra was a total loss.
