The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 16 at Sealand Restaurant located at 2359 W. State Hwy. 71 in La Grange. Social time starts at 6 p.m. with the business meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath detailing controversial aspects of the recently passed Constitutional Carry and other bills passed or proposed by the 87th Legislative Session. Constitution Week
The Smith McMillan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will hold a Ringing of the Bells ceremony in honor of Constitution Week. The event will take place Friday, Sept. 17 on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn in La Grange. The ceremony will begin at 2:45 p.m. Fayette County Judge Joe Weber will read a Constitution Week proclamation. DAR members will share some interesting facts about the U.S. Constitution. Everyone may join in reciting the Preamble to the Constitution. Then at 3 p.m., the group will ring bells for one minute in conjunction with similar ceremonies taking place across the nation. Feel free to bring your own bell and to wear red, white and blue. Constitution Week is Sept. 17-23.
Food Bank Truck
The Central Texas Food Bank Truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the junction FM-1291 and FM-2145 on Friday, Sept.17 from 10 until 11 a.m. It will be drive-thru only and all clients are to remain in their vehicles. Someone will be there to direct traffic. Clients are advised to make room inside their car trunks and truck beds. Food boxes will be pre-packaged and placed into each vehicle by volunteers. Health safety guidelines require volunteers to wear facemasks and to social distance. Clients are urged to wear facemasks while in the drive-thru.
Fayetteville Reunion Cancelled
The annual Fayetteville Schools Reunion that was to be held on Sept. 18 has been cancelled due to Covid concerns.
Pork Steak Dinner
The Men’s Club of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, La Grange, will hold their annual pork steak dinner on Sunday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Plates will be available by drive through only at the church’s parking lot at 800 N. Franklin St. Tickets are $12 per plate. The meal includes barbecue pork steak, German style potatoes, green beans and homemade bread. Tickets are available at the church office, and from Lukas Bakery, La Grange Chevron, and any Men’s Club member. Tickets will also be available at the drive through line.
Auditions For Of Mice And Men
Auditions for “Of Mice And Men” will be held Sept. 20 and Sept. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater on the grounds of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center. Due to the time period, plot and setting of this production, the casting call is Broadway Style, with each character’s gender, race, and age range specified. Visit www.faycotheatre.com for details.
Volunteers Needed At Winedale
Winedale is looking for volunteers to give house tours. There is no obligation for hours or days you work. You just need to have a love of history and the desire to work with the public. Oktoberfest on the Square
Oktoberfest is coming up quickly on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 3 to 7 p.m. Oktoberfest on the square is filled with tons of fun. It’s a true family event. Bring the kids to enjoy activities provided by Camp Lone Star of La Grange. There will be two live bands including the Dujka Brothers and the Second Wind Band under the event tent. For adults there will be over 80 different kinds of craft beer to sample. Wine samples will be available throughout the various boutiques on the Square. Don’t forger the homemade schnitzel and German noodles to round out your Oktoberfest experience. The event will take place on the Fayette County Courthouse Lawn located at 151 N. Washington St. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Historic Casino Hall, located at 254 N. Jefferson St.

Hospice Brazos Valley will host a Grief Support Group on the third Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for anyone who is grieving the loss of a spouse. Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support

Loss of a Child Support Group
A support and education group for a parent or grandparent who is grieving the loss of a child at any age or any stage of the grieving process will be held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Hospice Brazos Valley located at 1048 N. Parkinson’s Support Group
For anyone struggling with the Parkinson’s disease movement disorder, the group has reactivated in La Grange the third Thursday of every month for patients and caregivers. Vietnam Veterans Meeting
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Ammannsville KJT Hall located in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be available after the meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
